VIRAL VIDEOS Ricard R. ( 1 BATX A )

What were the first viral videos and why were they popular?

The first videos on the internet that went viral appeared before YouTube, Facebook or every other video sharing site started. That is a very shocking fact because YouTube is like the heart of internet videos and a lot of videos are going viral nowadays cause everyone uses this platform and sees them. Those videos were uploaded to YouTube when it was created before but its a very interesting fact that after YouTube being created and all this ‘internet craze’ came, there were videos that had already been seen by millions of people.

Those videos are;
The ‘Star wars kid’ (from 2003 - 32 milions of views on YouTube now) that is basically a teenager reenacting an imaginary awkward fight scene from Star Wars with a long stick and it became popular because people found it extremely funny and they started to make parodies of the video with different songs or lightsaber effects.

The ‘Dancing Baby’ (from 1996 - 3 milion views) that is like a GIF of a baby with a black background that dances all the video and it became popular because when everybody saw it, they uploaded a lot of diferent versions of the video with different songs on it and the video was everywhere.

The ‘Numa Numa’ (from 2004 – 24 milion views) that is a guy doing an exagerated playback while he’s dancing on a ridiculous way to the famous song Dragostea Din Tei from 0-Zone and it became so popular because people loved and found so funny the energetic and enthusiastic way that he sings.

The ‘Badger, Badger, Badger’ (from 2003 – 23 milion views) that is a VERY annoying video of a song that says repeatedly the word ‘Badger’ as it appears a video of a bunch of badgers dancing and it became popular because it seems that it was an inspiration of a lot of parodies, spin-offs and remixes.

And finally, the ‘Peanut Butter Jelly Time’ (from 2002 – 26 milion views) that is a very famous GIF of a dancing banana with a very strange background song that became popular because everyone shared it on different websites and the video remained like EVERYWHERE during a few years and started to spawn a lot of remakes on the early 2000s.

Which are popular now?

Nowadays there are an infinite amount of them on the internet and all of them have been seen by a lot of people, but I think that the most famous or the most liked ones are:

the ‘Keyboard Cat’ that is a very realistic video of a cute cat playing a little keyboard.
‘Charlie bit my finger again!’ that is an extremely famous video of two brothers where one of them puts his finger on the mouth of the other and this one bites it and laughs.
‘Hitler reacts to …’ that is a clip of the movie ‘Der Untergang’ where Adolf Hitler is making a statement to his men in a very angry German (or at least, in the original version) and people started to write actual things on English subtitles that represented that he was angry about this things happening (like Donald Trump running for President or Top Gear being cancelled or the death of an important character on a movie) and it was funny.
‘Evolution of Dance’ that is a video of a guy dancing to 32 different famous songs in history in a very expressive and representative way.
‘Harlem Shake’ that is a worldwide trend of videos where there’s a bunch of people being quiet with background music and when the song changes, they dance and move around in a ridiculous way and with different clothes and funny things everywhere.
And finally, the most viewed video on YouTube that everyone knows, ‘Gangnam Style’ that was a simple korean videoclip where the singer appeared on random places dancing or doing dumb and funny things but generated an enormous trend of parodies and remakes around the world. The singer became that popular that he’s doing more songs like that and they’re being extremely popular thanks to the fame that he reached with his 2.500.066.413 views on his first video.

Viral videos are one of the most famous things in the world nowadays but they’re only funny videos of people making dumb things or just being themselves so its not a very elaborated thing compared to the fame that they reach, it’s a very liked thing from everyone that everyone too can realize with a bit of creativity and imagination (Who knows… maybe you find me on a viral video in a few years or maybe I found you on some of them in a few years too right? J hahaha I’m just joking)

PS: I really recommend to everyone the ‘Fine Brothers Entertaintment’ YouTube channel because they expose people from all ages to viral videos and famous actual trends and the reactions of them are pretty interesting.

FINDING OUT ABOUT VIRAL VIDEOS

A "viral video" is an expression commonly used by most people when talking about something which has had a lot of views on the internet. However, it is not that important how many times a video has been seen as the continuous process of Internet sharing, typically through social media and sharing websites.

It is really difficult to determine a date of the beginning of such a successful phenomenon. Whereas there are ones who say it started in films, other ones say that it all began due to the creation of the video-sharing website par excellence, YouTube. So, there is not a list of all viral videos, but there are ones who come to our minds easily than others. Obviously, this depends on the person as I may not have seen exactly the same videos as, for instance, one of my friends.

I will proceed to explain one viral video which, as far as I am concerned, is the most famous of all time. It is called “Charlie bit my finger – again!” and for those who would like to see it, here it is the link:

This 55-second-video was uploaded on YouTube in 2007 and has almost 900 million of views. It features two English brothers sitting together on a sofa where the youngest one, Charlie, bites his brother Harry. At first, he laughs and finds the situation hilarious, until he puts his finger again into his brother’s mouth and gets bitten even painfully. Then, Harry starts saying that that really hurts and although it seems he is going to cry, finally he doesn’t. Meanwhile, Charlie just laughs as if nothing had happened, which makes the video funnier and more curious.

This video, which became viral instantaneously, is an example of how a small nonsense can be spread on the Internet unintentionally and have a lot of success. The video gave this family a lot of attention from British media. Not only they were brought great media attention, but also financial income through participation in the advertising revenue of YouTube.

To sum up, a spontaneous recording which someone may think has no value, can end in an achievement of an overwhelming success.

Viral videos

Viral videos are the videos which become popular on the internet.

To become a “Viral Video” it must be considered something important or something special; Why?

Because it means that the video has something special; in some videos it is the music, other videos have a great plot or some videos have an incredible post-production edition. But that was in the past, nowadays it is easier to become viral, but they become unviral videos faster than before too.

Sometimes we confuse viral videos with the most-viewed videos. There’s some important difference. To be named “Viral Video” it has to get a lot of viewers in  a really short time, like one or two days; they use to be short like 30 seconds or one minute as maximum; and they, usually don’t have a great budget, they use to be spontaneous videos.

On the other hand we’ve the most-viewed videos:  to be considered as a most-viewed video it has just to get a lot of views, but the time isn’t important; the video can be as long as the maker wants; and they use to have big budgets. There’re two examples about that:

Most-viewed video are normally Videoclips like:

Justin’s Bieber “Baby ft. Ludacris”
Miley’s Cyrus “Wrecking ball”
PSY “GANGNAM STYLE”Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth See You Again

Viral videos are normally funny videos or videos showing cute things:

Harlem Shake (Original Army Edition)
Baby Panda Sneezing

Surprised Kitty (Original)

An exception is:
Tomorrowland

This video has a relatively post-production work, and it wasn’t spontaneous.

VIRAL VIDEOS

A viral video is a video that becomes popular through a viral process of Internet sharing. Typically, through video sharing websites, social media and e-mail. Viral videos often contain humorous content.

Videos were shared long before YouTube or even the Internet. Perhaps, the earliest was “Reefer Madness”, in 1936, was an educational film that circulated under several different titles.

Two of the most successful viral videos of the early Internet era were “The Spirit of Christmas” and “Dancing baby”.

“The Spirit of Christmas” is the name of two different animated short films. They are precursors to the animated series South Park. Surfaced in 1995, spread through bootleg copies on VHS and on Internet.

“Dancing baby” also called “Baby Cha-Cha” is a 3D rendered animation of a baby dancing. It’s one of the first viral videos in the late 1990s. The animation of the original dancing baby data consist of heavily researched and adapted physics models to automate animation along with interpolated manually animated key frames. Contrary to popular misconceptions, none of the original animation data were created using motion capture.

Funniest viral videos in 2016!!

“Tulsa fire interview with Michelle Dobyne”, she was interviewed by a local news station because they wanted her take on an apartment fire.

“Mean Tweets: Country Music Edition”, Jimmy Kimmel Live has the Country Music Edition. Some of these are pretty funny!

“I told my kids I ate all their Halloween Candy”, every year, Jimmy challenges parents to trick their kiddos, telling them they have eaten all of the Halloween candy.

“Watch it rain Teddy Bears in a hockey rink”, over 28000 bears were tossed onto the ice during a hockey game, when Jordy Stallard of the Calgary Hitmen scored the first goal.

Viral videos

On youtube there are 14 types of viral vídeos..,I don’t like much this type of vídeos but sometimes when I’m looking on my facebook I see some only to see if I can laugh.

There are viral vídeos about  babys, extreme sports, dance vídeos, optical ilusion...

If I had try one type of viral vídeos this is babies viral vídeos but it is very difficult to create video starring babies since on one hand we would have to ask for the rights to use the image from the parents, and on the other hand , obviously there are not many baby actors  .

Adorably confused baby meets twins

In this video we can see a baby that is so confuse because  on of his sisters are crying and he’s so stressed with the crying of his sister and he asks why one are crying and the other one is still as a mummy.

Viral Videos:

Viral videos are those that quickly spread by Internet, television, and social networks.

In my opinion, a viral video is that that entertains you or entertains and immediately, you share it with your friends and this way successively. I have investigated a little and the first viral videos were Numa Numa, Star Wars Kid and others. These kinds of videos will approximately have 20 Million of views in a little period of time.

My first viral video was Numa Numa, in this video a guy sings the song "when you leave" doing a dance and a very funny gestures. It currently has 22 million views and it is still a very funny video.

Actually viral videos are more developed but some, not to say the most, have lost originality. There is what we call "YOUTUBERS" who are people dedicated to making videos and him subscribers make the videos upload by the "YOUTUBER" viral.

Most famous You Tuber’s in Spain are “RubiusOMG” (15 million subscribers), “Vegetta777 (10 million subscribers), “TheWillyrex” (7 million subscribers), and others. I think that this kind of people is so lucky because they can work doing his dream. I’m not a person who likes this but I recommend t people who want to be famous You Tuber’s they have to be original and don’t copy the famous one.

To conclude I recommend some viral videos like, “Pikaboss es Dios”, “Opan Gam Gam Style”and “Mi primera Vez”.

VIRAL VIDEOS

There are a lot of this kind of videos in the net but I think: How was the beginning? Who was the first person to record a viral video? Which is the secret of viral videos? Why are they so popular?... I always ask myself about these things but I can’t find the answer, anyway, I’m sure that there is a way to turn a normal video to a viral one and I’m going to guess the manner.
There are a lot of different types of viral videos but the top 3 are:

Videos of your pets: These ones are extremely popular and there are a lot of these videos in YouTube. Most of the people record their pets doing something strange or funny. The most recorded animal is the cat. There are lots of videos in the net about cats being cute or being scared or funny. Any video of your cat doing something different equals success. There is an example:

Videos about babies: There are a lot of videos of sneezing babies or of funny and kind babies. There aren’t as popular as the cat’s ones but they have a lot of views too. They are lovely and everyone wants to see a baby laughing or sneezing is really funny. There is an example:

Extreme videos: We all want to do a lot of extreme things but we can’t because we are too afraid of dying and because of that the extreme videos are too popular. Not being able to do all of those things doesn’t mean that we can’t live them somehow and because of that we have all these extreme videos in the net. In these videos we can see people jumping from really high places or flying with a wing suit through the forest or driving really fast with a quad or jumping with a moto. At least they are all doing incredible things. There is an example:

This is my opinion and that’s not the official top 3 list of types of viral videos but that are the type of videos that I watch when I search for them in the net.

VIRAL VIDEOS

A viral video is a video that becomes very popular in a short period of time. This is possible when people share the video with their friends. These videos usually have a humorous content that makes them funny to watch, so people share them a lot of times. For example, when Gangnam Style became popular, I saw it about seven times with different friends or relative.

There have always been popular videos, but just recently, the most viral ones can reach hundreds of millions views. A very important progress in this theme was the appearance of YouTube. Before YouTube, people had to download the videos and it was more difficult to share them with friends because there weren’t smartphones. Another problem was that it was impossible to know how many views had had one video. But luckily, in 2005, when a video-sharing website called YouTube began, it became easier to watch and share videos. Actually, everybody knows about this website but when it started, only few people knew about it. With the help of viral videos, this website became extremely popular. A good point of YouTube is that everyone can post their videos. So you don’t need to be a rich man to become famous, you just have to record and post a video that people like. If they share it a lot of times, you may be for the rest of your life “that guy who appears in that video”.

I think the most viral video is Gangnam Style with more than 2 billion views. There are other ones like “Charlie bit my finger”, “kicked in the head by a train”, “Cats scared of Cucumbers”…

But now there’s one that for me is very important called “Improvisation at the train station in Paris!” It’s very new and it became viral because Sheldon Cooper shared it in Facebook. I know Gerard, the man who is playing the piano, wearing the Barça t-shirt and I’m very proud of his performance.

VIRAL VIDEOS

In my opinion, viral videos are the exhibition of what we search nowadays on technology. We look for fun when we are bored and this kind of videos give it to us. It can also create interesting themes of conversation like when the image of “the dress” went viral (for your information, I still see it golden and white).

Nowadays, there are pages on internet where you can look for this kind of videos. When one of them gets viral, every social website has a hashtag or something to talk about it. One example of viral video that I can remember now it’s one of a man typing his password on his phone. I went viral because the password was really special because it had about thirty numbers. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYmHecgpTbs)

One of the last viral videos I have seen and that I really liked was from the programme of James Corden, “The Late Late Show with James Corden”. I didn’t know which programme was but for what I’ve seen he invites famous people to walk around with his car and talk a little bit. It went viral because when he was with Adele, he started singing her song “Hello” and he did it really well and even Adele was surprised! They made also some jokes and Adele rapped a song from Nicki Minaj (and then she reposted it on Instagram)

A REPORT ABOUT THE CATALAN PROCESS David A. (2n BATX B)

ON THE WAY
After the elections of September 27th Catalonia is still living such a passionate political moment.

“The parliament isn’t working” This was one of the most known headline three weeks ago. The results were very clear: Catalonia is divided into parts,   and the other one that wants to live the same way as before, without any change.

Catalonia is known as one of the richest and most productive regions of Spain. Therefore, Catalans always have required more autonomy for their institutions such as education, culture, health service and many others. Actually, this conflict isn’t new, since 1900 Catalonia has asked politically many times a new financial system to equilibrate the money that Catalonia send to Madrid and the money that it receives after the distribution among all Spanish regions. The main problem is when the money returns to Catalonia, it only receives the 60% of all the GDP produced, that way many institutions can’t finance themselves.

Catalonia, as a very talkative region, has many times tried to solve this problem with the central government. The first attempt was in 1932, many years ago, where 99% of Catalans supported the nationalist project: “Estatut de Núria” with a legal referendum, however, Spanish government didn’t respect the will of a people and they automatically contested it. The second attempt was in 1979. The second “Estatut d’autonomia” recognized Catalonia as a nation with culture, history and language, nevertheless, Spanish government contested it another time and Catalan will was not respected. There are many other attempts such as Estatut d’autonomia of 2006 or the Fiscal Pact. The point is that they have something in common: Catalan will isn’t respected in any of the treaties.

It’s normal that a very big majority of Catalan people want to be free to solve of the financial problems with their institutions and to keep saving their culture, education or traditions. Hence, on September 27th Catalonia organized plebiscite elections to know if Catalan people wanted to be free or not. There were two positions, the one in favor of freedom and the one against. The positions in favor of freedom won enough seats to start the process, the problem was that the big coalition called Junts pel Sí, didn’t have the absolute majority to govern by their own, they needed the radical Catalan left, CUP, to form a government and invest Artur Mas I Gabarró, the man who was supposed to be the main key in this process.

CUP as a very radical nationalist group didn’t want Artur Mas as a president, because they identified him as the Catalan bourgeoisie and also with all the corruption of CDC and Pujol’s family. They were very clear; they wouldn’t invest Artur Mas in any of the situations, so the process was stopped and many people said that it was completely broken.

The negotiations between Junts pel Sí and CUP were by initially really hard. There wasn’t any agreement between the two nationalist groups. They had about two months to invest a president or automatically elections would be convoked. After two moths negotiations were at the same point as they were when they started. It was just missing one day to finish negotiations when finally the two groups arrived at one agreement: Artur Mas would step aside to keep saving the Catalan process and continue with the way to an independent state. The person that Artur Mas trusted is Carles Puigdemont the mayor of Girona. The investiture debate was celebrated on Sunday 9th and he was proclaimed the 130th president of the Generalitat de Catalonia.

Catalan process is alive and the will of many Catalans is to be freedom in a modern democratic state where all their rights are absolutely respected and guaranteed. Many years of claim will be listened to form a new county called Catalonia.

A REPORT AB OUT THE CATALAN PROCESS. Adrià H. (2n BATX A)

What has happened in Catalonia those last days?

11/01/2016

Yes, in Catalonia there are happening some important events that will probably change the history of all Spain. Strategic movements, differences between the ideologies of the politic organizations are some of the obstacles that have appeared those last days.

As you can read in the subtitle, there are many drastic changes in Catalonia. It’s not the first time that this region is involved in a situation like this. It’s one of the most talked topic nowadays, so now you will know what’s happening there.

First we have to contextualize that situation to understand here in GB. Catalonia is an important part of Spain, there are cities like Barcelona, which is the most popularly common, Girona, Tarragona, and other ones. Catalonia receives lot of tourism and, consequently, lot of money. As everybody knows, Spain is a centralist country whose capital is Madrid. There, in Madrid, there is the 1st Minister, M. R. . He takes part of the conservative politician organitzacion, just you to know it. Many people, not only Catalan, think that he is a bad president because he only looks for the rich people interests.

Returning to the Catalan aspect, as I talk about the tourism, money… It’s essential to talk about the politic mix. Last 4 or 5 years the government has been taken by Artur Mas, at the beginning was considered a Central-right politic organization. But as the years passed, he has became more progress ideologically talking.

During his command, an independentism feeling started to grow up in a big part of the population. After 3 or 4 years celebrating manifestations reclaiming the independence of Catalonia, Artur Mas created “Junts pel Si”, a group of different organizations to promote the separation of Spain. He convoke elections and “Junts pel Si” won with 68 seats, not the majority of the parliament. Not often, an anarchist, anti-system politic group, called CUP, which defends the independence of Catalonia too, received 10 seats.

“Junts pel Sí” i la “CUP” started a set of negotiations to add both seats and have a clear majority. That seems easy, but to situate you, it’s important to say that A.M. , the leader of “JxSI”, represents bourgeoisie, people who have money and he will probably defend those people interests. On the other side, there is la “CUP”, that anarchist group of people who defend in grand part people who have less.

In those negotiations CUP doesn’t want A.M. as a leader because the reason I explained on the previous paragraph. This has been the conflict topic during those meeting between them. Lots of recriminations that as the time was passing CUP and JxSi were further away.

But finally, A.M., leader of JxSi took a clever decision. He gave the leadership to an other person making possible an accord between them. That person is Carles Puigdemont, who has been mayor of Girona city.

This action of Mas prevents to have to celebrate another elections and, in consequence, Catalan people get angrier and be despaired.

Making a conclusion, we can remark 3 things. Independentism process continues, unknown reaction about this of the central government and the last, and the most important is the complete use of the democracy but, do not forget the illegality of what they’re doing.

A REPORT ABOUT THE CATALAN PROCESS. Ignasi M. (2n BATX A)

Imagine you're asked about what has happened in Catalonia

These last few months have been quite strange, especially since the 27th of September, when Catalonia made its general election to the parliament. In this elections, two of the most important political parties of Catalonia submitted together.

This alliance, called Junts Pel Sí, won the elections, but couldn't obtain the majority of the parliament, so to take their candidate to lead the government, Junts Pel Sí needed to collaborate with other political parties, such as Ciutadans, Partit Popular de Catalunya or Candidatura d'Unitat Popular, also known as CUP.

CUP was the only political party which was supposed to reach an agreement with Junts Pel Sí, but the negotiations lasted so long, that the possibility of calling people to the polls again started to become real. The day the term to get to an agreement arrived, and Carles Puigdemont ended up being selected as the new president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, as Artur Mas, the outgoing president, stepped aside to keep alive the catalan process, which is supposed to end with Catalonia becoming a new country.

Now it's Carles Puigdemont's time, and as Junts Pel Sí 's waybill says, he has eighteen months to reach independence, what a huge responsibility.

CATALUNYA AND THE INDEPENDÈNCIA
It's been a couple or three years since the Independència feeling has attracted  many people for several reasons: the first one is the sentimental reason, a lot of Catalans don't feel that they belong to Spain; then some other people have economic reasons, it is said that Catalunya will go better if they go out of a Spain that is going wrong. On the other side, we have Spanish people that won't allow Catalunya to "escape" of the country.

There have always been people that wanted Catalunya to be an independent country, but the key moment was three or four years ago in a 11S celebration. There was a massive crowd in the streets of Barcelona asking for the indepedència and politicians started planning campaigns to try to become a new country. Since then, there have been two president elections. In the first ones, the majority of the Parlament seats were held by political parties who want the independència. Then there were another elections.

In the last elections of 2015, he party with more votes were Junts Pel Sí, a group of many political parties that want Catalunya to be a new state, but they didn't have enough seats in the Parlament for electing Artur Mas as a president so they had to negotiate during many time with a young political party called CUP, who, although they also want the independència, refused Artur Mas as a president. It seemed like there was no ending and another elections were coming and that would have been a disaster for all the movement. Finally, Artur Mas didn't become president and the mayor of Girona did, Carles Puigdemont, so the independència movement is going on.

People aren't happy being in Spain, so politicians have pressure (and obligation for many people), to take Catalunya out of Spain. They won't accept Catalunya leaving and it will be a long way. Let's see what happens in the next months, or maybe years.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN CATALONIA?

This is an opinion article. So I believe that everybody who reads this knows that every opinion has to be respected.

To talk about what has happened during christmas I think that I need to talk about yhe independence in Catalonia a bit. This is not a new term that has appeared these last years, more than 100 ago, Catalonia has requested more autonomy to the central government. The government has always been very close with that and has never given a chance to talk about that.

So first Artur Mas, leader of CiU, wanted to have a fiscal covenant and get the autonomy that Catalonia has been asking for. The government rejected this proposition and the citizens radicalized more (not only this afected to the "radicalization", there are more things involved but I'm not going to explain them all). So CiU grouped with ERC and later on Unió moved away from this alliance. The coalition between Convergència and ERC was named Junts pel Si, and wanted the independence, but first asking for a referendum to see if the citizens of Catalonia really wanted independence.

So the elections in Catalonia arrived and Junts pel Si won them, but not with majority, so it tried to pact with CUP, another independentist political party. But, Junts pel Si wanted Mas to be the president and CUP didn't. So they had to talk about these pact because if these political parties didn't pact, they couldn't govern Catalonia.

So after a lot of time discusing things to make the alliance possible, they made a deal. Mas wouldn't be the president of the Generalitat and would be Carles Puigdemont, ho was the mayor of Girona. So that's all that has happened in Catalonia during Christmas, almost all the time discusing about the terms of the alliance between JpS and CUP. A fiscal covenant would have been so easy and not that polemical...

The current political situation in Catalonia
The last parliamentary elections in Catalonia took place in September 2015 and Together for Yes (Junts pel sí), which is a group of Catalan political parties in favour of the independence of Catalonia, won but it didn’t achieve the absolute majority needed to form the government by themselves.
The CUP is another political party in favour of Catalonia’s independence that isn’t a part of Together for yes. In order to form a government both parties needed to agree, but the CUP didn’t want Artur Mas, who had been the president of Catalonia for 5 years, to be the president again, so there wasn’t an agreement.
The deadline to make the new government was two weekends ago and if it wasn’t made in this time there would have been new elections in March. Surprisingly, and against what most people thought, at the last minute both parties reached an agreement after three months of negotiations between them. Carles Puigdemont was elected as the new president, after Artur Mas decided to take step back to prevent more elections and to secure the political stability of Catalonia.

Carles Puigdemont was the former Mayor of Girona and his government has been made in the last few days. Their objective is to declare the independence of Catalonia in 18 months.
