ITALY 2016

Hi,

today’s composition will be about our last travel to Italy, so I will first say that I have enjoyed it a lot and I need to say that when I was younger I went twice to Italy, but I didn’t remember a lot of it, so I loved to be there with the school visiting a big part of Italy.

The first day (after being 14 hours at the bus) we arrived in Pisa, where I had never been, and I saw that all were taking the same photo, so I took a different photo,  holding the Pisa tower. I loved Pisa, but it made me short. Then we went to lunch to Lucca, a very quiet town. After that, we went to the hotel of Florence. I loved the days that we spent on Florence; it’s a very beautiful city, with a lot of emblematic monuments.

All the days we spent in Italy I eat pizza for the lunch and pasta for the dinner.

After spending three days on Florence, visiting places like San Gimignano and Siena, we moved to the other hotel at Venice, but after that we went to Padua. Then, we went to the hotel.

The next two days, we went to Venice to visit what we want, visiting mandatorily Burano and Murano, two isles that I enjoyed a lot.

The last day, the surprise came after getting up, when I first entered to the shower, and… there wasn´t hot water in the all hotel. I had to have a shower with frozen water.

Then we went to Verona, we spend the most part of the day there, and at the afternoon we went to Milan, the last place where we went. Then, we went to have the dinner, and another time to the bus.

Memory of my vacation
After a beatiful week we are finally going back to school, but not before writing this memory of my holiday events.

In my case there’s not so much to tell but I’m going to try it anyway. The first days were really simple, I was getting up late, having breakfast so relaxed and doing a bit of my “Treball de Recerca” each morning, the rest of the day was totally free time and sometimes I went to the swimmingpool.

But most of the days were different, even I was without riding my bicycle for so long on Wednesday I decided to take it. I went to near Girona with my uncle to route the way from the village “Angles” to “Sant Feliu de Pallerols”, it was not so long but I’ve been without doing any type of sport for maybe 2 yeas and I got a bit tired at last. I think it was 20 quilometers to go and 20 more to go back, each of these quilometers are really nice and it’s a little trip which you can do in a half of a journey. If  you’re healthy then, you’ll have no problem to do it.

During the other days I went to Barcelona, maybe for go “shopping” or to have lunch but not for many more reasons apart. On Saturday I’ve bought a new pair of sunglasses because the old ones were broken. And on Sunday my father, my sister, my uncle and I went to the Ripollès to hike across the mountains but it was foggy and we decided to mantein ourselves save than going up for the mountains when it was dangerous.

Finally there’s my favourite, “La Mona”. This Monday  we’ve done by ourselves our personal “mona” and I have to say that I feel really proud of how we made it, although it is normal because my father made the “base” of “pa de pesic” and my uncles are great cooks. We had the perfect combination to do it fantastic!

¡And that’s all folks!

Bye, Joan.

CHICAGO

A fabulous experience was starting on 5th March 2016. We were going to Chicago! It was a trip of 10 days with some other students from our school. We were going there for an exchange to improve our English level. Not only this, also to get to know a new culture, to visit a new city, to make friends and, especially, to have fun.

We had to get up at 3:00 a.m because the take off was scheduled for 6. We had slept just a few hours, so during the day all of us were very tired. We could relax and close our eyes when we were in the plane. We stopped in Amsterdam and stayed there for more than 4 hours. Finally we got on the plane that brought us to Chicago. Everyone was eager to learn more about this unexplored continent for us.

The first days we met the American students and got familiar with them. They were really nice people and we had a lot with them all. They prepared a lot of activities for us, for example, tours around the city, visits to some important museums, walks along beautiful streets, photo shoots by the Bean in Millennium Park, celebrations like St. Patrick's day...

We also visited the Sears Tower, the tallest building in Chicago. We went to the top and took so many pictures.

Another day, my family made me a Thanksgiving dinner. This holiday is in November but they made me something similar. The family invited friends and teachers and we had food like turkey and the pumpkin pie.

Nevertheless, without any doubts, the best moment was the Chicago Bulls match. Before it started, Patri, Gemma and I walked around the stadium with a Catalan flag singing Els Segadors and Barça's main theme. The match was very interesting, but it was more than just a match; it was an amazing show!

I also had the pleasure of visiting an American hospital. It was due to my allergic reaction that I had. I ate some grapes and then I played sports... It's a different type of reaction, I mean, I'm not allergic to grapes--just nuts, but the skin of some fruits has the same protein. It's not as severe as if i eat nuts but it's still a big problem. In fact, an ambulance drove me to hospital where I had to take some medicine. I could come back home after 2 hours.

In conclusion, it has been one of the best experiences that I have had in all my life, even though I had a big fright !

The trip to Italy began with a comfortable fourteen hours in the bus. After arriving, we visited Pissa, where I personally didn’t like. We were all asleep and seemed zoombies. We spent the afternoon in Lucca where the squad (Oscar, Ignacio Arcos and me) had to climb a tower with trees and spectacular views.

Florence was beautiful especially at night. However, I could not visit the dome while with the campanile I overwhelmed enough. The problem with Florence was that I couldn’t see David of Donatello and find the girl of Blanes...

I fell in Love with the views of the Tuscany from the village of San Gimignano. In Siena I met a with a friend from Madrid with whom I was in Venice and I returned to find she in Verona.

The day of Padova I was slept so I don’t remember it too much. Venice ended up tired of walking but the views from the campanile were spectacular. I’m in love with Burano but Murano didn’t like me even though I did the family shopping.

I didn’t like Verona anything, I guess because I was very tired and in Milan I was with the desire to enter the Duomo. Besides, I missed when we went to the supermarket to buy and I was alone too much time...

In short the trip was very enjoyable even though I ended up wanting to kill some of my friends ...

My Easter break

This Easter I was the most of the time at home except for one day we went to visit the apartment of some friends in Comarruga.
That day I got up at 9 am and we headed to Comarruga. We arrived at 11:30 o’clock and we visited all the city. After that, we had lunch at 2 o’clock and me and my friends went outside to play a little bit.
At 5 o’clock we went to the city again because we had to do a picnic and we ate some ice cream.
At 7 o’clock we took the car and we returned home.
The 29th of March my sister took us to a restaurant and give me an Easter cake.

The 29th of March I came back to school and I finished my Easter break.

HOLIDAYS IN ROME

These holidays my family and I went to Rome. I had never been in any city or village from Italy before but I want to come back as soon as I can.

The first day we went to Fontana di Trevi and it was incredible because of the art and the architecture but also because of how many people there were and the amount of coins in the bottom of the fountain. We also went to the Pantheon and to Piaza Navona. It was curious to see armed soldiers in the streets but we discovered that it is a way to protect the city because of the threats that they have been receiving from terrorists since last year.

On Friday we visited the Vatican City, we went to Sistine Chapel and to Saint Peter’s Basilica where there was so many people that we could barely breathe.

I don’t know why but I was expecting something different in Sistine Chapel like it was bigger or maybe that there was too much colours on the walls. But the pictures separately were amazing and just imagining how Michelangelo and other artists painted it was impressive.

On Saturday we went to Coliseum and the old town with a guided tour that lasted three hours so we walked about 22 kilometres from the Coliseum to the Jewish neighbourhood.

It was so interesting knowing the Roman history and not only what it is taught in school. The guide also explained us gladiators’ history, how they became heroes instead of being slaves as they were at first.

Obviously we ate pasta and pizza every day and I think it would be difficult to eat them now that we got used to the best pizza and pasta in the world.

EASTER IN BARCELONA

This Easter was a little boring, we stayed here, in Barcelona.  The first weekend of Easter I had a competition in Club Natació Sant Andreu (Fabra), then Monday and Tuesday I had training at 3:00pm to 5:00pm and on Wednesday since 8:00am to 10:00am. And finally vacations!!!! But of course I had to keep on training or... when I come back... I'll die...The first days I was relaxed, all day in the bed sleeping, watching films and listening to music.

One of the things that shocked me was that, I didn't know how but I remembered Michael Jackson. I really missed him. I started remembering how I knew him and it was in 2008, my sister called me because she had seen something in the computer. It was a video called "Bad" I remember that the first thing I said was " Is that a girl? " and my sister said me "No!! is Michael Jackson the King of Pop! " and I really liked that song, so since that video we started  listening to all his songs.

Everything was good, until one morning, the 25th of June 2009, mum came to me and said " I'm really sorry, but Michael is dead" it gave me a shock, I couldn't believe it, I didn't cry, but I was very sad. After remembering all this I started listening all his songs again and they brought me to those wonderful moments when I was little, it was very beautiful. I will never forget Michael Jackson.

The other days I made my school homework and we celebrated Easter remembering our wonderful past.

CHICAGO

I woke up at 3 o’clock in the morning, and the trip had begun.

I was absolutely tired, my family and I were going to Barcelona’s airport with very little energy. There I met my teachers who went with us to the trip and my schoolmates.

We took our first flight in destiny Amsterdam at 6 o’clock am.

When we were going there, Gerard fell asleep when everybody on the plane was sitting in their seat. When it had just gone up into the sky, he started to do strange movements and it was really funny.

We arrived at Schipol’s airport at 8:00 am. We had to be there for 4 hours more or less, we ate something and we played with some cards.

When it was time, we went to the plane that was going to transport us to Chicago. While we were going to the U.S, I watched four films, in English. Every one!

At 5:30 we landed in Chicago’s airport. We waited for the bus and we went to the school.

There, I met  my partner for first time. She picked me up and we went to her car. We moved to her home, that was 5 minutes by car from the school.

When I was there I met her family, and they were really nice.

Then I went to my bedroom, and I fell asleep because of the jet lack.

In those days, I visited the most important monuments in Chicago. I visited like Downtown, the Millennium Park, Sky deck tower, the city hall, the sculptures and the Picasso monument.

Also, we saw the Mexican neighborhood, where we went to the museum and ate some churros. Then we went to Chinatown to see the culture. We ate lunch and bought some souvenirs for our families.

The best thing I did was go to the Chicago Bulls game against the Miami Heat. I’m a very big fan of the NBA and it was a dream come true.

I have enjoyed this trip, I learned how to have a conversation in English with my partner, their friends and family. I also learned some of the American culture.

Now I have to take care of Jade (my partner) and hope that she will have a great experience  here in Barcelona.

ITALY 2016

Last week the whole class went to our end-of-course trip. It also was our last trip as a group because next year we’ll be starting our degrees in university. We travelled to Italy for one week and we got to see a lot of beautiful cities.

The trip started on Friday afternoon when we took the bus direction to Florence. But on our way we stopped to see Pisa and Lucca, two small towns. The first one is known for the Leaning Tower, and the second one for the intact city walls. On Saturday evening we arrived in Florence, the most beautiful city of the whole travel, where we stayed for three days, although the last one we spend the most time visiting San Gimignano and Siena.

We woke up on Tuesday and we set off to Venice with only one stop, Padua. It’s a very common city except for the fact it owns the Basilica of Saint Anthony, a place of pilgrimage by people all over the world.

After a rainy travel, we arrived in Lido, where our hotel was located, on Tuesday night. The next two days we saw Venice, which canals, bridges and gondolas made it and unique place full of beauty. We also could take a Vaporetto to the islands of Burano and Murano. Finally, the last day we started our return visiting the cities of Verona and Milano. At the night we get the bus so we could arrive to Barcelona in the morning.

Personally, I think it’s been a great travel which we enjoyed a lot discovering new places, spending time together and it also brought us closer to each other.
