A SELFIE. Sandra S. (4 ESO)

A SELFIE OF MINE

Hi there! I’m Sandra Salvatella and I’m writing you to talk a little bit about me and my life. I’m a teenager who lives in Barcelona, a wonderful city, in my free time I like to walk around its amazing streets because I like to discover new places with my friends. I live with my parents and my little brother, well he isn’t that little, he’s 11. We’re a crazy family, we love going hiking in the mountains, going to the beach (not only in summer, also during the whole year), going to the cinema or the theater, having fun in a theme park, such as Port Aventura, skiing with friends or travelling. This summer we’ve been to Menorca, we went 3 years ago and we repeated because we loved it. It has amazing beaches and it’s really relaxing. We took beautiful photos and we had a good time there.

And, how am I? What type of person am I? I’m a cheerful girl, I’m extrovert, and I easy make friends. I always have a smile on my face and I try to give this smile to my friends and people who are around me. I’m also really energetic and motivate, I can’t be too much time without moving, even at 8am I’m with energy. I’m a talkative girl, I love talking with my friends, relatives, teachers, neighbors… As one of my best friends always says to me, I don’t shut up even under water. I love talking about different matters, but what I like to talk the most is about style, social networks and of course about gossips. I’m happy to be a chatty girl, but sometimes it can be a bit hard. For example, some people get tired of me, because they don’t like people who are always talking. Or the teachers sometimes warn me, because I talk in class, when it isn’t allowed. Otherwise, I like to be talkative. I’m also a person you can trust on him. If my friends have a problem they know I’m always there to give them an advice or to help them. As Bruno Mars’ song says “You can count on me ‘cause I can count on you”, that song represents a good friendship, and my friends and I have a good one.

Talking about music… I love listening to music during all the day, when I do homework, when I’m in the street, when I’m at home, when I’m in the shower (it’s a show listening to me while I’m having a shower), when I’m just chilling, etc. The worst thing is that I’m a lame singer, I sing really bad and my friends always laugh at me when I sing. Even though, I continue singing and having fun while I do it. My favorite kinds of music are reggaeton and pop. Apart from music, in my free time I love watching series and movies. I’ve watched a lot of series, and my favorites are Pretty Little Liars, 13 reasons why and Girl Boss. Since I’m little my favorite film has been Grease, and nowadays it’s still my favorite. As we’re in the 21st century I’m active in the social networks and I love to chat with my friends and posting photos on Instagram or Snapchat, as you can see on the selfie I’ve attached using a Snapchat filter.
I don’t do many extracurricular activities, I only go swimming once a week, I make theater twice a week and on Saturdays I go to the Esplai, where I play with my friends, make different activities and we talk. Also, once a month we make a trip and on summer we go to campsite, I have a really good time there. But one of my goals is to be fitter, so I’m trying to go running twice or three times a week, being active is really important and having a healthy lifestyle too.

Now I’m 15 but it’s time to start thinking about my future. I’m not really sure what I want to be, but something I have sure is that it has to be related with the languages, maybe teacher, because I love speaking in public and I think I would be a good teacher or maybe I would like to be a journalist, I also like writing and travelling, I don’t know yet. But I’m not too worry because there is still time to decide it.

FRIENDSHIP Alba M. (2 BTX B)

FRIENDSHIP

Everyone in life has got a friend, a good friend. It’s the best thing it can happen to you. Friendship is one of the most important things in life. Someone that lives the life without the experience of friendship is living without life.

Friendship makes life thrilling. It makes life sweet and it makes you live unforgettable experiences. It all depends on how we choose our friends. There is one sentence that explains it very well. The friends are the family that we choose. And it’s very true.

Friendship for me means everything in my life, because I am what I am thanks to my friends. Now that I’m older I know who the true friends are and I have some of them. I will not have many friends but the ones I have are enough.
“Better three loyal than one hundred who stab.” That's my motto.

A SELFIE Laura C. (2ESO)

A SELFIE OF MYSELF

Hi! My name is Laura and I am 13 years old like the majority of the class. I have long, straight, blond  hair and blue eyes. I think I have the smallest ears in the entire universe but that isn’t bad for me.

In my family there is my dad, Xavi. He is 48 years old and works in a school because he is teacher. My mum, Celia, is 46 years old and also is teacher. I have a little sister called Marta. She is 8 years old and all people say that we are very similar but I don’t think the same. She does all the possible to bother me all time. I suppose that all people that have a little sister think the same as me about them.

My favourite hobby is playing tennis with my friends so I often play it. I like listening to music, going to the cinema, and staying on the sofa with the mobile phone looking instagram or some things like this. I love all the animals but I don’t have any pet so one of my dreams is having a dog. I also like acting or dancing but I don’t like singing very much. I love going shopping and on Sundays I get sad because I don’t have the chance to buy clothes. I hate making the bed because I think it’s useless. Why do I have to make the bed if I have to sleep another time??

I also like going to school because there I can see my friends a lot of time. My favourite subjects are English, because I like learning languages, and art, because in a future I would like to do something related with design. I don’t like history because I think is very, very boring. At school, I have a lot of friends but my best friend is Maria Saludes. I love hanging out with my friends because I feel very happy when I see them.

I have a lot of dreams but one of them is flying by plane to travel to a lot of places like New York or California because I never travel by plane. Another dream is meeting my idol, Ariana Grande. She is my favourite singer and I think her songs are fantastic.

I hope that in a future, all dreams came true.

TRAVELLING TO POOR COUNTRIES. Genís F. (2BTX A)

Travelling to poor countries

This summer one of my friends, who is one year older than me, went on a holiday to India. I’ve always wanted to visit India, one of the most deeply spiritual countries in our planet, the cradle of fascinating Asian culture, the largest democracy in the world and one of the last big remnants of tradition. Actually, in my opinion, dying without visiting India would be a defeat for any travel enthusiast. But then I though with my mum’s wise words “visiting another country is a developed world’s privilege and I personally don’t think that I would be happy enjoying visiting the same country where thousands of kids die daily”. India is also famous in the West for being a developing country with many economic problems, extremely low wages, a high income disparity, a dramatic incidence in child labour and so on. So then I asked to myself: is it ethical to travel to poor countries?

On one hand, it’s true that when we travel to another country, whether it’s rich or poor, it’s not supposed to be bad for the citizens of that country. Actually international tourism brings money from other countries’ citizens to the visited country ones. And yes, it’s also true that, especially in poor countries, the money we spend goes to big hotel companies, high-income minority’s restaurants, exclusively urban businesses or to corrupt state railways but most economists confess that it also generates job among a weak middle-class with a very high risk of falling on to poverty, it brings money to state funds that will help to invest in vital infrastructures or in better quality housing. So, tourism is good for the economy of these poor countries and it should help them to introduce themselves in a global world where everywhere people meet other people.

On the other hand, some people think that this kind of tourism is like a reformed expression of neo-colonialism and that it’s a new way to show the world western supremacism. For these people, it’s unethical to visit countries, enjoying a land which is often a hell for its own inhabitants. Cultural tourism is, in my opinion, the best way of visiting a country but it becomes unethical when it implies considering humans’ life or human activity in those underdeveloped countries like a tourist attraction. It’s a way of showing your cosmopolitan integrity against the traditional way of life of these people. People, wherever they live, are not like animals in the zoo or, at least, they shouldn’t be treated like that.

Finally, I would like to do a last appreciation that implies our city’s tourist situation. Obviously, Barcelona is a developed world city and even a global alpha level city but it also suffers from the worldwide problem of international tourism. Mass tourism in our city is a problem as it’s acknowledged for many of its citizens in the last city’s official survey. The problem with mass tourism is not just that Barcelona’s people are losing their city or the bad behaviour of some of that tourists but that this concentration of tourism in our city’s centre is making the rents surge and people are losing their houses, this is what’s called “gentrification”. So, people of that Barcelona’s neighbourhoods have many reasons to be angry and have the right to be attended for the municipal government which made many promises of regulating mass tourism but actually we’re making very little progress on the matter. Some people say that tourism is good for the economy and it’s true but it’s also true that it generally creates precarious and seasonal jobs, so it’s very important not to make our economy depends on tourism. Gentrification is killing our city’s spirit and we can’t let it happens.

To sum up, in my opinion, there’s no problem to visit other countries, even if they’re poor, because it’s always good to interchange experiences and to discover new cultures but it’s also important to make a responsible visit of that country respecting humans in those countries as you should respect any human in the whole world. And if your travel includes a non-profit solidarity work (an advice: if you travel to an underdeveloped country you should never give money for your own to kids on the street, they’re being exploited by a mafia) which it’s even better. Tourism is a good way to make us more integral persons but it should be well organized by our political authorities to create a balanced and sustainable tourism in this age of accelerated changes in a globalizing world.

FRIENDSHIP. Pol P. (2BTX B)

Friendship

Someone once said: “Friends are the family you choose”. For me, this is totally true. From my point of view, it would be really hard to live without them. And this is because they can help you in things that nobody else can.

For example, a good friend is someone with whom you can speak about things that really worry you without shame. Moreover, with him you can discuss about things that you know your parents wouldn’t understand, as for example if you have discussed with another mate at school or if you like a girl.

Furthermore, with a true friend you can laugh and spend a good time, which is really good to forget daily stuff and help you move forward.

And of course, I’ve got some good friends in class (as you might already know), who I wouldn’t change for anything in this world.
