THE POWER OF SMILING
According to Cambridge English Dictionary a
smile means to show pleasure, amusement, etc., by turning up the corners of
the mouth. However, it is actually more than that. How do people feel when
smiling? Does smiling only mean happiness? I will proceed to explain below the
real power of smiling.
To begin with, most people tend to feel happy
when they smile. It is obvious that it is a gesture which is usually shown for
the sake of reacting to a positive or cheerful moment. That is why it is
universally acknowledged that whenever a photo is being taken it is usual that
people smile. Nevertheless, there may be situations in which a smile has a
different meaning. For instance, in order to show irony
or disdain.
Furthermore, it is commonly said that smiling
provides us a longer life. Experts who have researched this issue end into that
conclusion. “The wider you grin and the deeper laughter lines, the more likely
you are to have a long existence” it is said in one of those studies. Anyway,
we might never know that for sure.
Moreover, a smile is sometimes contagious.
Other researches support the following idea: “Essentially, when you see someone
else smiling, your mirror neurons will stimulate a sensation within your mind
that is associated with smiling. This causes you to smile yourself! This
experience is effortless and immediate – contagious, if you will.” Then, it is
not weird if we ever see some people laughing just because, with no other
apparent reason.
In addition, the way anyone feels when smiling
may be unique. Our lives need smiles so as to be happy, optimistic and
motivated. There is no better emotion and it definitely makes us feel better.
To sum up, there is not anything stronger than
smiling. It is usually a spontaneous gesture which makes you live through exciting
moments. Besides, such a powerful movement can also be created when you are
with someone who smiles, and that makes you to do so as well. To enjoy your
life and to be happy, you need to smile. So, just smile.
