Review
Disney Animation’s short film Paperman, which made its
theatrical debut in front of the studio’s current feature Wreck-It Ralph, is one of 10
animated shorts that have made the cut for Oscar consideration and it has won
this price.
In Paperman’s story it shows
how a man intends to catch a woman’s attention by throwing some planes made of
paper, which is a really innocent and romantic way to explain us the beginning
of a love story. Or maybe they’re just, finally, friends.
There’s no dialogue, and, what’s more, the film is black and white, which
is being more popular nowadays, likewise The Artist and Snow white.
So, visual effects have to be very careful to show how the main character feels
like. The only colourful thing is the red lipstick mark on the man’s paper.
Furthermore,
the musical environment expresses lots of feelings, such as calm and romance.
Despite being
a positive and romantic film with a happy ending, it is
such a naïve situation which doesn’t happens in the reality. I mean, paper
planes don’t have the capacity of unifying two people.
As a whole,
this short film has lots of feelings without saying a word. Maybe this was one
of the things which make this film really interesting and enjoyable.
