Imagine
you're asked about what has happened in Catalonia
These last few months have been quite strange,
especially since the 27th of September, when Catalonia made its general
election to the parliament. In this elections, two of the most important
political parties of Catalonia submitted together.
This alliance, called Junts Pel Sí, won the elections, but couldn't obtain the majority
of the parliament, so to take their candidate to lead the government, Junts Pel Sí needed to collaborate with
other political parties, such as Ciutadans,
Partit Popular de Catalunya or Candidatura d'Unitat Popular, also known
as CUP.
CUP was the only political party which was supposed to
reach an agreement with Junts Pel Sí,
but the negotiations lasted so long, that the possibility of calling people to
the polls again started to become real. The day the term to get to an agreement
arrived, and Carles Puigdemont ended up being selected as the new president of
the Generalitat de Catalunya, as
Artur Mas, the outgoing president, stepped aside to keep alive the catalan
process, which is supposed to end with Catalonia becoming a new country.
Now it's Carles Puigdemont's time, and as Junts Pel Sí 's waybill says, he has
eighteen months to reach independence, what a huge responsibility.
