Which is
better – the book or the film?
In this essay, I’m
going to write about the books and the films and the best option. In the cinema
world, a lot of movies are inspired on books, such as “Dear John”, a beautiful
book in which two young people fall in love and he goes to war, or “The
shining” an horror book written by Stephen King.
Some people prefer the
book to the movie. In the book, you can re-read certain parts, re-live that
moment over and over. While you read you are transported to another world, a
world created from what is written in these pages, a world created by you. The
book allows you to imagine the characters as you want (from the descriptions),
not imposing a face, like in the movies, or a particular landscape. In the
book, you create everything and you can feel part of the story, you feel like
you're there, you walk through the same way as the protagonists, you feel that
you are breathing the same air. The books don’t need any technical support o
special effects, simply being well written. Can you imagine it? Then it is
possible! The paper, the letter, the
books don’t have limits, only those who want to give your mind.
But obviously, there are
always those who prefer the movie. Perhaps because they don’t appreciate what a
good book can give them. Perhaps because in their busy lives don’t have time to
read them. Perhaps they are a bit superficial, prefer to see much action and
not delve into the feelings of characters. Or just have a different view. This
is the world, different people with different tastes. The films also have their
advantages, have special effects that give more realism to the story, sound
techniques, background music for the mood…
In the movie the characters have faces, actors and actresses play their
role, no need to imagine anything, everything is represented physically:
landscape, houses, parks, cars… But, I
think, for someone who doesn’t read is more difficult to capture the feelings
and feel identified with a video.
There are stories that
are best understood if they are represented with a movie. For example, the
Harry Potter’s saga. In some parts of their books, the struggle, have more
realism in the movie, because it has special effects and sound, but other parts
such as the dialogues are better in the book. Another example would be
“Titanic”, I think in the book are well described events, the collision with
the iceberg but this series of event written loses emotion or... don’t have
much realism. But, in the film, with all the effects, the people are impressed,
the drama increases considerably.
In conclusion, I
prefer books because with them it isn’t necessary any special effect, any actor
or actress, any sound or music, only need your imagination. With it, you can
travel to fantastic worlds, you can imagine the faces of the protagonists and their
clothes, their looks, all. And now, you can download digital books by internet
and are free, think that is important too. The books will always have a special
magic that the films never gets to have.
