GAME OVER. Gerard F. (1r batx A)

GAME OVER

Last Wednesday, a boy came to school and talked to us about the risks of driving a vehicle if you’ve drunk or you haven’t slept for a long time and also what happens when you take drugs and then you want to drive. “Game Over” is the name of a campaign to prevent accidents on young people, so then we take the necessary security measures if we drive a car or a motorbike.

Then, the boy who was called Ángel explained us his terrible story and why he had the accident which made him be quadriplegic now. His story was a bit like this: He went with some friends to Pamplona, because they wanted to celebrate the well-known San Fermines, he was the only one of his friends with car so he was driving all around the city all the day, Ángel discovered that his friends just wanted him as a driver, so he got angry and took his car, he decided to go home at night driving alone to Badalona, that was a crazy idea, so… sadly, he fall asleep and crashed with a big wall he doesn’t remember anything since then. He spent a month in a anxious coma for his family, when he woke up, he couldn’t even talk or breath for himself, he didn’t any reason to live.

The injuries started to decrease, and he could talk to his parents and eat liquid food. He ended as a quadriplegic young boy that won’t be able to walk again. Clara Urquiza made an interesting question, she asked, how his life had changed since then, and I think that was a bit emotive question because he told us that everything has changed, at first he couldn’t do anything for himself, but now he lives alone and he does many things alone, but he cannot go to the bathroom alone so, a medical assistant goes to his house four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).

Finally, I would like to say that even though Ángel is living a complete life because he told us, my aunt has been going on a wheelchair since she was 4 years old because of the Polio issue, and she is now 86 and she always tells me that of course she would like to be able to walk again, but that was the life that she has got and she is really happy, so I think these extraordinary people know how to distinguish what is important and what is not in their life, Ángel is a person who has an amazing story about effort and hard work.
