Last week, on Wednesday, October 15th, a guy from the 'Institut Guttmann' came to our school and talked about the prevention of irreversible
damage to the central nervous system: spinal cord injury and traumatic brain
injury.
This man explained that he had had a car accident and has stayed in a
wheelchair forever. The reason of the accident was that he was angry with his
friends because he thought he was being used as a taxi driver. He decided to
return home, without thinking that two days ago he had not slept practically
anything. On his way home, the accident happened, he fell asleep. He spent a
month in a coma and a year in the hospital doing rehab. At first, he raised
questions as: why me?, why living? But gradually, he saw that he had to try to
work not only for him but for his parents, sister, family and friends who went
to see him so badly.
His accident was caused by fatigue, but many others are produced by
going under the influence of alcohol, drugs or lack of caution. This guy
repeated during the talk several times: What is worth a few minutes late or being
killed?
