USA exchange. Sandra S. (1 BTX A)

Since I was little, one of my biggest dreams has been travelling to the USA, and luckily, this year it has come true! We’ve spent 8 days in Maryland, living and sharing moments with our host families. I’m so happy and grateful for the family I’ve been with, we’ve learnt thousand of new things and we’ve made lots of friends.

Throughout our trip we’ve visited many places, the ones I’ve liked the most are Washington, it’s a nice city full of monuments and museums and, of course, New York. Luckily most of us could make it and our partners drove us to the big city. I really enjoyed it, it seemed like we were in a movie and I completely felt in love with the city!

As every exchange, we’ve had to do everything that our partners do, we have felt like real American teenagers! We have gone two days to school and it’s all so different, we wore the uniform and it was really funny! Other days we have gone shopping, but our partners were always super busy because they have practice almost every day, for instance I have gone to poms practice and track. American people are very nice and friendly. Although everything is different and we’ve been in a foreign country, we have felt like home.

Summing up, it has been an unforgettable experience and we’re really looking forward to meeting our partners again in just 2 months! We’re excited to show them Barcelona and make them feel as good as we’ve felt in their country.

A book recommendation: WONDER. Albert B. (1 BTX B)

WONDER by R.J.Palacio

Wonder is a book whose author is R.J. Palacio. The story is located in a small town of United States of America and the main character is August, a child with deformations on his face.

August has never gone to school. But this year he will go to high school and he is very afraid because he thinks that he will have problems to make friends. During the course August has a lot of problems because other students make him bullying. At the end all the problems get solved and everybody accepts him.

My opinion of this book is very positive. Because it helps us to think if we are sensitive with the problems of others or not.

I remember when I read this book two or three years ago that I really enjoyed it a lot. It is a fantastic book with very touching history that makes you think of the humanity of people.

I repeat that it was amazing the experience of reading it and I recommend it.

OUR EXCHANGE TO USA

Our whole trip to the States has been like a dream. Even though getting there was long and tiring, it was completely worth it. The first days we strongly dealt with jet lag, we were feeling tired and out of place most of the time but we finally got used to it.

I felt so comfortable while I was there, not only for the hospitality with which my host family treated me, but for the incessant sentiment of feeling like home, and that was one of the things that impacted me the most. Every day we did different activities such us little trips to important cities near us, like Washington and Baltimore, or going to the school with our partners and seeing how the classes work and follow their daily routine. We found it so different from here, but that’s the funny part of this, discovering how’s the life of the ones who live on the other side of the ocean.

To conclude, I’m very thankful for the opportunity they gave me to accomplish one of my biggest dreams, going to New York. I did know the low possibilities I had to go there because it’s far away from where they live, but they made it possible because they knew my thoughts about it. I can’t imagine I’m just sixteen and I have fulfilled an experience like this.

What does richness mean? Ariadna M. (2n ESO)

TO BE RICH IS NOT WHAT YOU HAVE ON YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, BUT WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR HEART

According to the dictionary the meaning of richness is:
Richness is an abundant sum of goods, of valuable things or a
stock of economic goods available to a subject or a society.
But is that the real meaning of richness?  For me NO.

Richness is linked to abundance but is not always the money you have on your bank account, the number of homes you have or the companies that you are leading. There is another meaning of richness and that is for me the most important one.

MATERIAL RICHNESS
Material richness, therefore, is the possession or control of numerous assets and goods. This richness is created when a productive or commercial process generates more money than which was used initially.
Richness is opposed to poverty. The rich one has money and material means to satisfy their needs and to consume goods that are not essential, but the poor one has difficulties in health services and food.

SENTIMENTAL RICHNESS
Sentimental richness is usually associated with happiness. Those who are emotionally strong get true happiness and lasting success for all their lives. Emotionally rich people have:

1-Confidence
They are sure of their value as people and they don’t need the public to approve their actions. These people don’t need attention and they are satisfied with themselves.

2-Resilience
It is the ability of a person to overcome an adverse situation.
They know how to control their reactions.

3-Looking forward
They don’t waste their energy trying to convince someone else
that they deserve their attention. They are looking to improve

4-Enthusiasm
These people wake up wanting to enjoy their day the maximum.
They don’t miss
opportunities.

5-Happiness
These people control their emotions. They chose the thoughts,
the emotions and the answer instead of acting basing on fear.

In conclusion, I think that the emotional richness should be more valued that material
richness. Because in this way we will be better persons and the world will be
 much better.
