PAPERMAN. Jennifer B. (2n batx A)

THE OTHER FACE OF THE OSCARS 2013

This year, the 85 th Academy Awards Nominees were celebrated. But, here we are not going to talk about the winners of the most important awards like the best film, the best actor, the best actress or the best director; we are going to talk about the nominee to the best short film animated. The reason is that this kind of awards aren’t considerate important and they go unnoticed.

In the last years, the number of preselected animated films has increased a lot. In the 2010 they were 33, in 2011 they were 45, the last year they were 57 and this year they were about 70. So, it was more difficult to decide the nominees for The Oscars 2013 because all the shorts were really original.

But after a very hard decisions the Oscars nominees for the 2013 Academy Awards for the best short animated film were: Adam and Dog (Minkyu Lee), Fresh Guacamole (PES), Head over Heels (Timothy Reckart and Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly), Maggie Simpson in "The Longest Daycare" (David Silverman) and, finally, Paperman (John Kahrs).

All of them are animated shorts films very original and are about different topics. But only one could win the prize. The fortunate was Paperman that is related with a topic: love. This short film is in black and white and mute, I mean, the characters don’t talk but there are sounds like when the train is arriving, the claxons of the cars, etc. So, it’s amazing and breathtaking how animated characters are able to transmit and tell us a story without saying anything.

For concluding, I would like to say that I would rather that Head over Heels won the prize. The reason is that the love story that it tells is really romantic and very wonderful. I dare say that this short
animated film is able to make you burst into tears because is really tender. I recommend to you see it because it only lasts ten minutes of your life and it is worth.
