VIRAL VIDEOS Joan O. ( 1 BATX B)

VIRAL VIDEOS

A viral video is a video that becomes very popular in a short period of time. This is possible when people share the video with their friends. These videos usually have a humorous content that makes them funny to watch, so people share them a lot of times. For example, when Gangnam Style became popular, I saw it about seven times with different friends or relative.

There have always been popular videos, but just recently, the most viral ones can reach hundreds of millions views. A very important progress in this theme was the appearance of YouTube. Before YouTube, people had to download the videos and it was more difficult to share them with friends because there weren’t smartphones. Another problem was that it was impossible to know how many views had had one video. But luckily, in 2005, when a video-sharing website called YouTube began, it became easier to watch and share videos. Actually, everybody knows about this website but when it started, only few people knew about it. With the help of viral videos, this website became extremely popular. A good point of YouTube is that everyone can post their videos. So you don’t need to be a rich man to become famous, you just have to record and post a video that people like. If they share it a lot of times, you may be for the rest of your life “that guy who appears in that video”.

I think the most viral video is Gangnam Style with more than 2 billion views. There are other ones like “Charlie bit my finger”, “kicked in the head by a train”, “Cats scared of Cucumbers”…

But now there’s one that for me is very important called “Improvisation at the train station in Paris!” It’s very new and it became viral because Sheldon Cooper shared it in Facebook. I know Gerard, the man who is playing the piano, wearing the Barça t-shirt and I’m very proud of his performance.
