With the appearance of social networks are we still being manipulated by
the media?
The media
has been always manipulating as in order to change our opinion according to the
interest of a few people who usually are those who are in charge of the country
and finance them.
With the
appearance of social networks, this has been limited because of the
participation of millions of people who share their thoughts about a current
issue. This gives the readers the options to have different points of views
about the same issue. But this doesn’t mean that we aren’t manipulated anymore.
We are
still being manipulated but they are using more subtle ways to do that. This
manipulation takes place in our education for example. Since we are little we
are influenced in thinking in a determined way that goes according to the
interests of the region. Also even if they are only points of views, some
opinions are just wrong because they haven’t any fundament, they have already
been discarded by a truthful source (for example the creationists) and people
who are only focused on their own way of thinking and defend them in the only
way they know: by taunting.
So Social
Networks haven’t eradicated this manipulation but they have only reduced the
impact it has on us.
